Welcome to the second edition of the CCID newsletter. To kick off, we’d like to extend the congratulations of all our CCID colleagues and board members to our very own Tasso Evangelinos, who has just been made the organisation’s chief executive officer. Having originally joined the CCID in the year it began – 2000 – Tasso moved up to chief operating office in 2007. To read more about this exciting news, click here.
We have also welcomed three new staff members to the organisation.
Christa Maans
Personal assistant to the CEO
Christa started out her career in administration and bookkeeping at a five-star boutique hotel and health spa in Tokai. She then moved on to a renowned civil and structural engineering firm in 2003, where she swiftly came through the ranks to become the PA to the managing director of the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth offices. She worked there for 13 years before deciding she needed a change of environment. She is now the PA to CCID CEO Tasso Evangelinos.
The Social Development department has expanded with the addition of two new members.
Joseph “Joe” Maganga
Fieldworker (social worker)
Joe is from Zimbabwe, where he completed his primary and high school education. Awarded a bursary to study social work at Fort Hare University, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work, before starting his career in Johannesburg as a residential social worker at the Carl Sithole Social Centre, a Soweto home caring for children. Joe relocated to Cape Town in 2012 to join the child protection field at Cape Town Child Welfare, where he worked for two years. Thereafter, he worked as a developmental social worker for the Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled, before joining the CCID in September 2016. Joe has worked in several vulnerable communities in Cape Town, including Crossroads, Gugulethu, Hanover Park, Heideveld, Manenberg, Nyanga and Philippi.
Shanien Stemmet
Fieldworker
Shanien began her work in social development in 2008 as a driver with The Haven Night Shelter in District Six, before moving into fieldwork for the same organisation at its Wynberg shelter. In 2011, she moved to The Haven’s Retreat shelter, where she became an auxiliary social worker. She left in 2015 to work for four months at the Glen Elgin Community Organisation in its Victim Empowerment Programme, presenting educational and skills programmes for women on the farms of Grabouw. In October 2015, Shanien began working at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children as its intake auxiliary social worker. She joined the Cape Town CCID in October 2016, and is also currently studying towards a BA social work degree through Unisa.
