Manager for CCID Safety & Security Muneeb “Mo” Hendricks recently played the role of special delivery guy to distribute doughnuts, kindly donated by Food Lovers Market in St Georges Mall, to all the CCID’s public safety officers (PSOs).
Says Mo: “This was a gesture to say thank you to the over 200 PSOs who played a vital role in the recent rollout of the Safety & Security department’s festive season ‘Stash it, don’t flash it’ campaign that ran from December to March. Our officers were on the ground educating the public, handing out brochures and giving hints and tips particularly to tourists on how best to enjoy the holidays without having their time in the CBD spoilt by crime.”
Accompanied by the #StaySafe catch phrase, the campaign incorporated a number of on-the-street activations warning members of the public about potential opportunistic crimes such as ATM fraud, theft out of motor vehicles and pickpocketing. Many of these activations took place in and around traditional “hotspot” areas to disrupt any potential criminal activity at venues such as ATMs or in high-density nighttime entertainment areas such as Long Street. “These activations have actually been so successful that they will now become part of our year-round strategy,” says Mo.
“A campaign can only ever be as strong as the people behind it,” says CCID Communications manager Carola Koblitz. “This is why we owe a huge vote of thanks to the PSOs who assisted both our Safety & Security and Communications departments to roll out this year’s campaign. They really are living the CCID brand and are as proud of their role as ambassadors as the important role they play every day in crime prevention.”
