Karoo Suite/Katrina
Enjoy this musical ode to the Karoo by Coenie de Villiers and renowned author Deon Meyer. The second half consists of the debut performance of the ballet based on the life story of Katrina Esau, the last remaining fluent speaker of the Khoisan language N/UU.

Kewpie: Daughter of District Six
Gay & Lesbian Memory in Action (GALA) presents the personal photographic collection of Kewpie, whose given name was Eugene Fritz. Kewpie was part of a queer community in District Six from 1950 to the early 1980s. Thus, the curated photographs and accompanying material explore Kewpie’s life and drag culture in District Six, introducing a new audience to a fascinating period of LGBTIQ+ social history and deepening historical understanding of the diverse District Six community. In addition, the collection offers an insight into photography and self-representation in a specific time and place in history.

StateoftheART Gallery Award 2018 Finalists Exhibition
After careful consideration of several hundred entries by artists from around South Africa, StateoftheART has shortlisted 10 artists for its inaugural StateoftheART Gallery Award 2018 and now the work will be on show in a special exhibition at the gallery for the final round of judging. The winner will be awarded a R10 000 cash prize and a solo exhibition with the gallery in 2019.

Still Figuring Out What It Means to be a Man
Taking an empathetic view of individual men, but a critical one of the oppressive system of patriarchy, this multi-media exhibition considers various aspects of manhood and masculinity in today’s South Africa. It arose against a backdrop of increasing gender-based and sexual violence perpetrated by men in South African society.

2018 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
Be part of Africa’s Gold by making your way to any one of the specially-created spectator zones for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, Africa’s only IAAF Gold Label-status road race. Many runners will be visitors to our beautiful city and will feed on your encouragement to get them over the line.

The AfroFest
Be part of The AfroFest, a three-day collaborative festival aimed at building awareness around local artists and businesses that uphold African culture daily. The AfroFest happens at various locations in Cape Town and features several activities such as African cuisine, arts and crafts, fashion and performance pieces. Participating businesses in the CBD include Mali South Clothing, HomeBase Cape Town Backpackers, Copacabana Café and Jimmy Jimalo Bar & Grill.

Drift City
Watch Cape Town’s top drifters in action as they compete for the coveted title of Drift City Champion on a technical course that requires them to combine speed, smoke, angle and timing. They’ll also be a kid’s entertainment area, food trucks, a skate park, cars and bikes on display, sound demonstrations, spectator drift rides and live acts to rev your adrenaline engines.

An Abdullah Ibrahim Solo Piano Concert: Water from an Ancient Well
On Heritage Day, South Africa’s most distinguished pianist and a world-respected musician Abdullah Ibrahim will perform Water from an Ancient Well, in two solo piano concerts at The Fugard. Abdullah’s career spans nearly seventy years, which all began in Kensington and District Six at the age of seven.

50 Shades of Fairytales

Oleanna
Film, television and theatre producer Eric Abraham presents a Fugard Theatre production of Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet’s powerful and searingly topical play, Oleanna. The play examines the explosive and relevant contemporary issues of the assumption of power, intellectual freedom and sexual politics against the background of academic, institutional and structural inequality.

Heritage Festival
Enjoy a diverse line up of events aimed at celebrating diverse cultures and identities through indigenous, contemporary and international artistic works in dance, music and jazz. Shakespeare in Love

The International Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture
This year’s 8th annual Desmond Tutu International Peace lecture, reflecting on the TRC as it reaches its 20th anniversary, will be delivered by President Cyril Ramaphosa, and will take place the day after Archbishop Tutu’s 87th birthday. The lecture is a key opportunity to take stock of the critical issues on the local stage, the national scene and in the international community. Previous speakers include The Dalai Lama, Graça Machel, Thuli Madonsela, Mary Robinson, the late Kofi Annan, Advocate Hila Jilani and Advocate Vasu Gounden.
