Ensuring a good morning in the Central City

by CCID

Ever wondered how the Cape Town CBD manages to look so fresh at first light, even in party season? It’s not magic; it’s the work of the Straatwerk Dawn Patrol.

The hangover of a night out in the Central City doesn’t just disappear. Made up of two teams of four (one supervisor and three cleaners in each), the Straatwerk Dawn Patrol picks up litter on the streets of the Cape Town CBD between 03h00 and 07h00 on Fridays to Mondays.

Deployed under the guidance of the CCID’s Urban Management department, they tackle entertainment areas including Long, Bree and lower Loop streets and surrounds. That’s why if you partied it up in the CBD on New Year’s Eve and returned for your breakfast run, it offered few reminders of the night before. Every morning should start with a clean slate.

The Dawn Patrol began its work on 17 December 2016 and will continue till 15 February 2017.
