KHULISA OFFERS DELICIOUSNESS AND DIGNITY IN ONE SANDWICH OFFERING

by CCID

CCID social development partner Khulisa Social Solutions is spreading the word about its StreetScapes project in real homegrown fashion – by offering the public a bite and the opportunity to better someone’s life through the purchase of a Dignity sandwich.

Named for the Dignity Project started by the Cape Argus, the produce for each sandwich is grown by members of the Khulisa programme in the StreetScapes garden situated next to Fruit & Veg City in Roeland Street. With the garden already open on Saturdays for a number of months now (for the public to stop in and purchase fresh produce), the sandwiches are an extension of the incredible work being done by this NGO to better the lives of street people.

The sandwiches are delicious doorstoppers made from artisan bread and freshly picked veggies, and the range includes:

  • Roast chicken with garlic chives, fresh herbs and wholegrain mustard mayo;
  • Slow-roasted beef brisket with salsa verde (made from parsley, basil, mint, capers, Dijon mustard, olive oil and wine vinegar);
  • The Caprice – a tomato, basil and mozzarella caprese version with extra salad, drizzled with herb-infused olive oil.

Chicken and beef options are R25 and the vegetarian option R20, while an entire platter goes for R250. All proceeds go back to funding the StreetScapes project, which – through its garden and other initiatives – is creating work opportunities. Place your order two days in advance, for a minimum order of five sandwiches.

And if this value for money, meaningful mouthful isn’t enough, a special promotion currently on the go will also give you a chance to win a meal at participating sponsors of the programme, namely House of H or Doppio Zero, or win a veggie hamper. All you need to do is download this flyer with more information about the sarmies, and bring it with you to the StreetScapes garden next to the Roeland Street Fruit & Veg City.
