It’s here! The CCID’s Best of Cape Town Central City Guide 2020 is crammed with everything you need to know to make the most of what’s on offer in our downtown, from grabbing a bite, to seeing the sights, hitting the clubs, shopping up a storm and more.
Published in collaboration with New Media, the ninth edition of the guide has over 300 places to enjoy in the CBD, which complement over 900 others that can be found on the CCID website. This includes destinations in the CBD where you can stay, play, visit, eat and shop.
The guide, which was awarded a Certificate of Merit in 2018 at the International Downtown Association’s (IDA) 64th Annual Conference & Tradeshow held in Texas in the USA, has grown in popularity with locals and visitors alike.
As in previous issues, the CCID and New Media have pulled out all the stops to highlight the vibrant array of offerings in the Central City. Every year, new venues are added to the list, with key CBD figures adding spice to the mix by revealing their favourite CBD haunts, including magazine editor and award-winning novelist Debbie Loots (FYN is her favourite restaurant), journalist Malibongwe Tyilo (who buys her coffee at Café Frank in Bree St), events manager Dawid Minnie (who hangs out at the Harrington’s Cocktail Lounge), restaurateur Solomon Yigzaw (the Iziko South African National Gallery is one of his favourite spaces) and content marketing professional Ashraf Booley (who loves to frequent the Earth Fair Food Market in St Georges Mall).
SUPPORTING A WORTHY CAUSE
While 60 000 copies are printed, this year 15 000 copies will be bagged with The Big Issue’s end-of-year Special Edition which runs from November 2019 to January 2020. The Big Issue is a socially responsible non-profit organisation that enables willing, unemployed and marginalised adults to take responsibility for their own lives through a developmental employment programme. The monthly magazine is sold on the streets across the city, including the CBD, by vendors who are easily recognised by their official blue and white bibs. Please look out for them and support them.

The remaining 45 000 copies of the guide are distributed free of charge via a variety of outlets in the Central City, including retailers, restaurants, hotels and visitor information centres that fall within the CCID footprint.
