With all available coupons for the event on Wednesday 11 December 2013 having been collected so quickly, the City is giving those who weren’t able to get coupons a chance to still witness the homage to Madiba by screening the event on the Grand Parade.
The response to Cape Town’s own tribute to Madiba at Cape Town Stadium – Nelson Mandela: A Life Celebrated – has been overwhelming. The stadium event will, therefore, be screened on the Grand Parade from 16h00, when it starts.
Only those members of the public with a coupon will be allowed access into the stadium. The City urges residents to only come to the stadium event if they have their coupon.
The coupon for entry to the stadium event allows free access to public transport from 12h00 onwards into and out of the city on the MyCiTi bus service, Golden Arrow Bus Services and Metrorail.
There will be a free MyCiTi shuttle service from the Civic Centre to Cape Town Stadium, and a pedestrian walk of remembrance from Cape Town Station to the stadium will be activated (the Fan Walk).
For those attending the screening of the event on the Grand Parade, free public transport has been made available into and out of the city on the MyCiTi bus service, Golden Arrow Bus Services and Metrorail. This transport will be available from 12h00 to 15h00 inbound and from 19h00 onwards outbound.
Both events – at the stadium and on the Grand Parade – will necessitate road closures, and motorists are asked to please bear this in mind. We encourage residents going to either the stadium or the Grand Parade to opt for public transport, with various options being provided free of charge.
Road closures around the Grand Parade
The following roads around the Grand Parade will remain closed for the screening:
Corporation Street, between Darling Street and Longmarket Street.
Darling Street, between Plein Street and Buitenkant Street.

In addition, Lower Plein Street, between Strand Street and Darling Street, will be closed from 07h00 to 22h00.
Other roads around the Parade may need to be closed depending on the number of people who come to watch the screening of the event. Motorists are urged to please bear these possible closures in mind when travelling to and from the CBD.
Road closures around Cape Town Stadium
The roads listed below will be temporarily closed and/or restricted to vehicular traffic for the stadium event. This will have an impact on traffic flow and motorists are asked to please plan their trips accordingly.
Walk of remembrance

Waterkant Street (resident and business access only) between Buitengracht and Lower Burg Street.
No parking will be permitted on the above roads during these times. Access to and egress from parking garages will be allowed for permit holders only.
