The Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID) welcomes social worker Tatenda Mucharunga to its Social Development department.
A qualified social worker, Tatenda joined the CCID at the beginning of October 2018. He replaces the organisation’s previous social worker Joseph “Joe” Maganga who recently moved to Australia to pursue further opportunities in social work abroad.
Born and bred in Karoi, Zimbabwe, Tatenda completed his Social Work Degree, Honours in Psychology as well as his Master’s Degree in Social Work at The University of Fort Hare. He is currently studying towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health at the University of the Western Cape. He began practising as a social worker in 2015 at the Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled, providing services to people with disabilities in the Philippi area and running community projects. Prior to joining the CCID, he worked at Home from Home, an organisation dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable children in the Western Cape through its network of small family homes. His role at Home from Home included training and supervising foster mothers as well as overseeing the health, educational and other developmental needs of children in foster care.

He is a social worker through and through and his experience working in vulnerable communities in Cape Town will go a long way in his current role which entails engaging with the Central City’s most vulnerable daily and assisting street people towards the services they need, together with the rest of the social team.”
