Explains Richard Beesley, manager of the CCID’s Urban Management department: “Sweeping the streets in the rain and extreme sunshine every day is not an easy task to do, and we believe this programme will go the extra mile to keep our cleaning team motivated to do the best job they can. It is an incentive that will also help to reduce staff turnover and create pride, which benefits ourselves as the CCID operationally, but ultimately also benefits the stakeholders within the entire CBD”.
There are three categories that will be recognised each month, and winners will each receive a R200 Pick n Pay voucher as well as a CCID Certificate of Merit. Says Richard: “Winners’ photos will also be displayed on a ‘Wall of Fame’ that has been erected in J&M Cleaning’s daily parade area as a reminder to each employee that they too can be on the wall if they show commitment and work well.”
The selection committee consists of the CCID’s precinct managers and the J&M contract managers who select their nominees based on:
- Attendance.
- Neatness.
- A clean record of offences.
- Keeping a respective area clean.
- Reporting of incidents outside their scope of work.
- A positive attitude.
The CCID’s senior Urban Management team chooses the final winners each month. The first recipients of the awards, for January 2014, are:
Day shift Sweeper of the Month: Mogamat Begg
Night shift Sweeper of the Month: Vusumi Mbethe
Supervisor of the Month: Kevin Combrink
