Comedian Dan Corder brings his brand of political satire to the District Six Homecoming Centre with his show The Real State of the Nation. At each performance, Corder will interview a high-profile guest and first up is none other than the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis, himself! NDLOVU YOUTH CHOIR
You don’t want to miss the return of the internationally recognised Ndlovu Youth Choir to Cape Town! Since it was founded in 2009, the choir has become one of South Africa’s best-loved choral groups, known for its unique musical arrangements, vocal talent and infectious energy. Fifteen choristers and a three-piece band will perform six shows in the Mother City from their 2024 repertoire, including their version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and a South African medley that honours icons such as Johnny Clegg and Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse.

UBUNTU UNITE LIVE
Ubuntu Charity – an NGO that supports the children of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay – is hosting this family friendly event to raise funds that will go towards building a community centre. Singer Mujahid George, comedian Nik Rabinowitz and the band Freshlyground’s new lead singer, Mbali Makhoba, who hails from Hout Bay herself, will be performing, with some of the Ubuntu kids also participating. FROM HANOVER STREET – A CONCERT COMMEMORATING 60 YEARS
This powerful concert honours the people and stories of District Six, which was once alive with music, culture and everyday life before 60 000 people were displaced due to the forced removals that took place in 1966. Jody Abrahams, Loukmaan and Emo Adams, and Alistair Izobell – who each played the character of Broertjie in the original production of David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen’s show District Six: The Musical – reunite with Kramer as producers to celebrate the spirit and creativity of this community. The concert also commemorates the 20th anniversary of Petersen’s death. (Note: no under-fives).

CANDLELIGHT CONCERTS
This series of multisensory musical experiences under the glow of candlelight continues into February with a tribute to film composer Hans Zimmer, known for his scores for Gladiator, The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean, on Valentine’s Day. This is followed by tributes to British rock bands Queen and Coldplay on 20 February, while more traditional tastes can look forward to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on 21 February.

A CAPPELLA AND CHORAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

THE FIREBIRD
This production is a bold South African reimagining of the well-known ballet that fuses puppetry and dance performed to Stravinsky’s music. Award-winning puppet-theatre director Janni Younge and choreographer Jay Pather co-created this show, which revolves around the Seeker, a young woman on a quest to claim her creative power. Younge and Pather’s interpretation of The Firebird fairytale explores themes such as imagination, resilience and transformation. (Note: no under-sixes).

THE NUTCRACKER
Following a sold-out run in Johannesburg, Cape Ballet Africa’s production of Tchaikovsky’s much-loved ballet comes to the Mother City for seven performances. Choreographed by Maina Gielgud – former artistic director of The Australian Ballet – with sumptuous costumes designed by Marcel Meyer and sets by Cape Town Opera’s Michael Mitchell, this promises to be a dazzling version of the Christmas story about a girl named Clara who goes on an adventure when her nutcracker doll comes to life. GOLIATH AND GOLIATH

DRACULA
This Cape Town City Ballet production is based on Bram Stoker’s classic horror novel. The plot centres on a battle between good and evil that unfolds following English lawyer Jonathan Harker’s ill-fated encounter with the vampire Count Dracula. First performed in 1999 and choreographed by David Anthony Nixon – former artistic director of the BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, USA – this dramatic, sensuous ballet is sure to thrill. LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS
The Rotary Club of Wynberg hosts this annual fundraiser in Cape Town City Hall to raise vital funds for its chosen charities. CAPE TOWN HIP-HOP FESTIVAL WITH NGQONDO QINA BOPHA
This music festival features various local artists, a workshop and performances of Ngqondo Qina Bopha, which explore a man’s psychological turmoil after killing his lover. Trapped between his thoughts and emotions, Buntu’s internal conflict is portrayed though lyrics, movement and rhythm. KRISMIS VAN MAP JACOBS

INVESTEC CAPE TOWN ART FAIR
The largest international contemporary art fair on the African continent returns for its 13th – and most ambitious – edition.
