In celebrating Women’s Month, the CCID spoke to female leaders in government, business and civic society in the Central City. We published some of their comments in the Winter 2016 issue of City Views. Here is a Q&A with Sharon Fortune, CEO of J&M Cleaning Services. What brought you to the CBD in the first place and how long have you been here?
My business has been based in the CBD since 1990 and we purchased our building in 1999. We are currently operating J&M Cleaning from 95 Loop St.
What makes your business venture unique or unusual?
We have serviced the Cape Town Central Improvement District for nearly 10 years and we are the only cleaning company with our head office based in the CBD, which is an advantage to our clients. We are a female-owned, BEEE level one business.
What is it about the Cape Town CBD that you enjoy?
Cleanliness and the ability to be part of the CCID’s success.
Outside of your work environment, what is your favourite place/spot in the CBD?
The Thursday Earth Fair Food Market, Birds Café, Tiger’s Milk and Taj Cape Town for lunch and breakfast.
What has been your best time in the CBD?
The Community Chest Twilight Team Run and the free Cape Town International Jazz Festival concert on Greenmarket Square.
If you had a lunch hour free to yourself, how would you spend it in the CBD?
I would take lunch and coffee at Birds Café or Food Lovers Market and sometimes some retail therapy.
