The latest edition of the Cape Town Central City Improvement District’s (CCID) investment guide to the Cape Town CBD was launched on Friday 4 April 2014.
The State of Cape Town Central City: 2013 – A year in review follows on the original released in 2012, and outlines the successes of the Cape Town Central City in terms of its overall economic performance, investment potential and emerging trends.
Says Rob Kane, chairperson of the CCID: “This is the only amalgamated report of its kind currently being produced by a South African CBD, and the first – our 2012 edition – proved to be extremely popular and valuable in attracting investment into the Cape Town Central City.
“The latest report has upped the ante significantly in terms of the information it contains relating to commercial and retail properties, opportunities in existing and up-and-coming business sectors, residential properties and the downtown lifestyle in the Central City, as well as overall information on investing and doing business in this CBD.”
The CCID, the publisher of the report, is a public/private partnership with a mandate to enable the Cape Town CBD to be “safe, clean, caring and open for business”. Driving the last part of this mandate aggressively, it therefore strives to promote Cape Town’s Central City to both maintain existing and attract new investment. Working together with its partners, specifically the Cape Town Partnership and the City of Cape Town, its working model is based on the concept of international business improvement districts (BIDs).
Features of the latest report include:
- Ongoing surveys conducted with the business, retail and residential sectors in the CBD, from which data trends are now emerging. These include never-before-released results on, for example, the residential climate in the CBD as well as the amount of retail space that actually exists in the area (along with occupancy figures).
- Information on the values that respective industry sectors bring to the CBD, from eventing and conferences to the creative economies.
- Spotlights on specific industry sectors to watch in the Central City (including the financial and healthcare sectors).
- The amount of recent infrastructure investment that has been brought into the Central City in terms of public transport and broadband rollout.
- A comprehensive investment map of all developments completed since the 2012 report, as well as those currently in construction or planning phases
The authors of The State of Cape Town Central City: 2013 – A year in review are its researcher/writer Andrew Fleming (who works as a senior researcher jointly for the CCID and the Cape Town Partnership) and writer/editor Carola Koblitz, who is the CCID’s manager of communications, as well as a respected local and international property journalist and editor of many years standing.
In light of the local, national and international demand for the 2012 report, distribution of the 2013 report has been stepped up significantly. An e-book version will also be available on the CCID website from Friday 4 April onwards [link].
