We regret to advise you that the CCID’s service provider, Iliso Protection Services, received a strike notice late on Friday afternoon, notifying the employer that the officers would be on strike from 006h00 on Monday 8 April until 07h00 on Tuesday 9 April 2013.
This morning, the employer has been in discussion with the union to understand the full extent of the issues concerning the officers and to try to find a mutually acceptable resolution. The CCID has notified its partners at SAPS and the City of Cape Town about the issue, and the CCID public safety managers, with Iliso’s managers, are providing as much security support in the Central City as possible. Our managers are on patrol on the ground, and we have deployed nine mobile security units across the city. The control centre will continue to receive and respond to calls.
We wish to emphasise that this is a labour dispute between our service provider and their employees who are contracted to provide public safety support for the CCID. The CCID is working closely with the service provider to ensure that the dispute is resolved.
We will provide an update as soon as possible. In the meantime, please be assured that our service provider is doing everything within reason to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
We have also seen the front-page story in the Cape Argus newspaper today, which has quoted an individual who is not a formally appointed spokesperson for the CCID. We reiterate that the dispute lies between the employer and the union members, and not with the CCID as implied in the article. We will be responding to the editor of the newspaper to correct the factual inaccuracies in the caption.
